What Is Coaching?

So what is coaching, anyway?

I’ll tell you what it’s not — it’s not dumping a bunch of advice on you and then guilting you into following it. Chances are, you’ve had enough of that from the media, the Surgeon General, your friends, and your family. If just knowing what to do were enough, we would all be glowing with health right now.

It’s also not therapy. Therapists delve into the past and into the why. Coaches focus on the present and the future, and on the how. When we do talk about the past, it’s to figure out what’s worked for you and how you can replicate that success — not to ruminate about the things that have gone wrong in your life.

As a coach, I help you clarify your goals, pinpoint your obstacles, figure out ways around those obstacles, and reach success. I’m not like a bunch of friends down at the bottom of the mountain instructing you on how to climb it — I’m there with you every step of the way.

Coaching is motivating, inspiring, and uplifting. It helps you envision your best self — and then make positive changes that let you make that vision a reality.
